Grainy videos depict the violence that has killed at least 6,000 Syrians, but the prospects for international intervention appear dim. Is the world inured to the ubiquitous images?

Well, one main reason is probably the way Syria has been presented internationally for the last decade or so. They support Hamas. They support Hizbollah. They hate Israel. I mean, can you really think of the last time you saw Syria projected in a positive light in the media? So, now the people of Syria (who never really had a decision on who their government funded or told them to love/hate) are falling victim to global apathy. Meh, Syria is the “bad guy,” who cares if they all die.

It’s remarkable. Even Tunisia, which most Americans couldn’t find on a map, was flooded with support after one person died. Syria has lost thousands of innocents, with women and children making up an unprecedented percentage, and we all just sit by. Maybe we’ll say some strong words, but that’s about it…
