Iran is in many ways a safer territory from which al Qaeda can operate. The United States has targeted al Qaeda in Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and other countries, but it has limited operational reach in Iran.

Al Qaeda in Iran, Why Tehran is Accommodating the Terrorist Group - Foreign Affairs (via brooklynmutt)

Hold on wait, we do remember this right? (Despite the problematic rhetoric of the article)

Weren’t people speculating the same Iraqi-Al Qaeda relationship prior to the Iraqi invasion? Can you self-proclaimed political analysts pick one already? Al Qaeda couldn’t have been both pro-Saddam and also function safely in Iranian territory. And if you think that is an accurate assumption, I invite you to read some history books. Or even a Wikipedia page, for goodness sake.

The whole Al Qaeda friendly, and holder of destructive weapons propaganda is a little unoriginal, no?

(via 3achacha3b)

The only country who hates al-Qaeda more than the United States claims to is Iran and that hatred is genuine.

What is this nonsense? Even if they wanted to, al-Qaeda could not set up a base in Iran because they’d be killed.

(via mohandasgandhi)

Indeed. No one (at least in the US) seems to pay attention to the fact that Iran is on al-Qaeda’s list of countries to be destroyed. They believe the Shi’a (of which Iran is a majority) are heretics, perhaps even worse that Christians and Jews.
